Marie-Eve Brindamour of Womens Program a recent recipient of a $500 award!

Another monetary award has been granted by Francine Tracey and Mortgage Architects Metro-West to a hard working rugby player in support of her efforts towards rugby in the province and on our Canadian Team. Marie-Eve Brindamour is the most recent recipient of a $500 award.

“I received an email from Burnaby Lake Rugby Club seeking a sponsor to help bring Marie-Eve back to the province in order that she could play in the BC Finals for her club Burnaby Lake, and to train for the Canadian side. Having known this hard working player personally for so many years, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Over the years I have supported the rugby community through the clubs that I have played and coached for. This is a community that supports their sponsors and I have helped many a rugby player with their mortgage needs over the years. I am happy to sponsor when the opportunity arises.”
Metro-West gives annual donations to the Bob Spray Rugby Fund and the Women’s Professional Rugby Scholarship fund at SFU. These awards enable hardworking students who play rugby at the university to continue their education. “SFU alumni are excellent clients and referral sources of my mortgage broker business”. The most recent award has been granted through Rugby Canada.
Marie-Eve has been playing with the Canadian National Senior Women’s Rugby Team (NSWT) for the past 3 years. She is currently training full-time in preparation for the World Cup taking place in England in August-September 2010.
Marie-Eve started playing rugby in high school but only got seriously into it when she came to Vancouver in 2001. She studied criminology at Simon Fraser University and played for their club team for 5 years. She represented BC in 2003, 2004 and 2006. In 2005, she was away with the U23 Canadian team. In 2007, she went to New Zealand to improve her rugby skills and played for Burnside RFC and the Canterbury provincial team. In 2008, she started a Master’s degree at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and played rugby for the university team. She also played for the Blue Bulls provincial team.
Since coming back to Canada, Marie-Eve has played for TMR RFC in Montreal, the Universite Laval CIS varsity team and represented Quebec at the provincial championships in 2009. She was back in Vancouver for a brief stint during the 2010 winter and played with Burnaby Lake RFC. She is currently in Quebec preparing to represent her home province at the 2010 National Women’s League (NWL) championship but she intends to move back to Vancouver permanently in a few months.
The current model for funding women’s rugby in Canada is a “Pay to Play” model. It is not uncommon for her and her teammates to pay upwards of 10,000$ per year to cover the costs of travel, equipment, training, clothing, etc. This does not include loss of wages in their absence of up to 8-10 weeks per year. There are also additional costs of approximately 2000$ per year associated with playing for their clubs and provincial teams.
She would gladly use this donation to help alleviate some of these staggering costs.
With the World Cup only a few months away, there are many very costly events scheduled. There are two games planned against the USA in Victoria in June 2010, the NWL championship in Toronto in July 2010, a training camp in Wales in August before the team heads to England for the World Cup starting on August 20th.

Francine Tracey welcomes any inquiries or referrals. “The more business that comes to me out of the rugby community, the more I make sure that my business gives back”. Francine is an experienced mortgage broker of 20 years in the industry. She is no stranger to residential, commercial or private financing, and also provides wealthier individuals with mortgage investment opportunities. Through Metro-West mortgage a first time buyer can get a full training and education on purchasing a home, or current home owners can get a free analysis of their current mortgage situation. “My goal is to give clients the best advice possible on their unique mortgage needs. Clients find when they come to me for information, they get the full range of my experience, together with graphical analysis of their particular situation. It's a very good fit for client’s to walk away with a comfortable feeling about their financial choices”.
