Klahanie Rugby Park was the scene for the latest re-engagement between the Caps and Burnaby Lake.

From the opening kick off the Caps were keen to contest for the ball at every opportunity. Fierce counter rucking, and contesting at the intial contact point throughout the first half frequently frustrated Burnaby Lake

The Burnaby tight five stepped up at the breakdown and were rewarded when a strong support run from Jody Dobush netted the first try at 13minutes..

At 20 minutes in Burnaby was deep in the Caps half and good ball from the scrum found it’s way into the hands of Outside Centre Maria Gallo. Maria spotted the gap and dashed in for the games second try, converted by Anna Schnell.

At this point the Caps made a determined foray into the Burnaby half and successfully pressured Burnaby Lake while keeping possession. Unfortunately for the Caps the 10 minutes of sustained pressure went un-rewarded as the ball was eventually spilled over to the Burnaby.

At 33 minutes Corrine Jacobsen was the recipient of a great set off by a Julia Sugawara run. Corrine dotted down from short range for the third Burnaby try.

Halftime was about adjustments. Despite the three try advantage, Caps were constantly pressurizing and disrupting at the breakdown. Additional defensive adjustments were needed to deal with the string inside running from the Caps forwards.

The second half saw Andrea Burke step in at Flyhalf, and the bombs down the field started.

The Burnaby back three countered well with Daamo Skelton finishing off one of the counters for the fourth Burnaby try.

The rest of the half saw Burnaby grind down a very game, competitive and feisty Caps squad. Further tries came from Anna Schnell, Devon Luca and Julia Sugawara with Anna Schnell also supplying a second conversion on the final try.

Final Score Burnaby 39 – Caps 0

Other highlights:

Devon Luca’s try. It was the result of a great linking of forwards and backs with Devon gratefully receiving a gift from Julia Sugawara
Brenna Glover having an exceptional game, claiming the ball on the floor, ensuring we retained possession, and doing the dirty work that rarely makes the front page.
From the 2nd Div Brandon Mattin scored her first try EVER. Congrats Brandon!
