Men Collect First Win of Season

The Premier Men hosted UBC on a dreary Saturday and fought their way to a 12 - 6 victory over the students.
Both sides have been battling attrition early this Premier season but it was staunch defense and sound execution of the basics that lead Burnaby to prevail.

Burnaby opened the scoring in the first half with a powerful run down the sideline by winger Sanaila Dawai. A turnover was spun out wide into the hands of Colin Mckenzie who gave a little show of the ball to the defenders and had enough bids to open up the track after an offload to the Steama who pumped his way through tackles for 40m to score. Tiny Tom Harris made good on the convert.
UBC slotted a couple penalties to bring them close but the Steama would strike again with a gutsy play in the second half. Sana intercepted a sailing pass inside UBC’s 22m line and had little trouble finishing between the posts. The kick was not successful as there seems to be a jinx on slotting kicks between the posts.
The win marks the first of the season for the Premier Men and it comes at a much needed time with injuries abound and a slot of tough matches on the horizon.
