Coach Brandl Announces Team to Face United on Saturday
Burnaby Lake Rugby Women's Head Coach, Walt Brandl has announced the Starting Line up to face United Rugby Club to start the second half of the BC Rugby Premier Women's League.
It is a very strong line-up, featuring 5 current members of the Canadian NSWT. It also marks the return of longtime Burnaby scrumhalf Julia Sugawara, who had been plying her trade across the pond with Saracens.
The side is again led by Canadian stand-off Anna Schnell and assisted by Canadian Team mate Kim Donaldson who will be hooking and leading the pack.
Kim will be the rose between thorns Brenna Glover and Shannon Fedawa. Packing in tight with them are Jody Dobush and veteran Kary Steele to form a very solid platform in the Engine Room.
The forward pack will also see the introduction of another NSWT member, Marie-Eve Brindamour, who moved out West after the National Tour in Florida. She will be wearing Katie Larson's No.8 jersey and will be flanked by Police Officer Marley Harris and Lauren Tagg.
At the base of the scrum of course is Jules, who will pass to Captain Anna, who has very good choice receivers in Mel Miyazaki at Inside Centre and Doctor Maria Gallo PhD. on the outside. Dr. Gallo missed the Florida trip with the SNWT due to an ankle repair but she is good & ready and raring to go. You may recall that she was the Captain of the Team that beat France on their Tour in November. On the wings are the strong running Erin Jang and speedy Kangaroo Dammian Skelton.
At fullback is birthday girl Devon Luca who hopes to give her teammates a 19th birthday present with a strong performance and maybe a couple of tries. No pressure there.
On the bench are speedy gonzales Becky Querido, who was all over the field at practice on Wednesday night. She is joined by young enthusiastic Brandon Mattin, Assistant Coach Emma Hadfield, who would rather be tackling bodies on the field than pulling her hair out on the sideline - she has given that task to Katie Larson, who will not be involved in any further dust up with United's No.8
We are also joined on the bench by Erin who played for the Fergie Highland in the Ontario League and Debb Capps who has just returned from checking out some Kangaroos Down Under.
A very strong and balanced side indeed that impressed Coach Walt at practice!!!
It should be a physical affair
