BC Premier Women's Schedule Announced
The BC premier Women's Schedule was announced quietly Thursday Night
The Premier Women's Spring Schedule was released Thursday night with a mixed bag of Home and Away games for our Defending Champions. The first game on February 6th sees us visiting the United Rugby Club for what will be a spirited affair. When these two teams met at Burnaby last year, there were two yellow cards and a Red flashed by the referee. This was from a dust up by the two No.8's and after they got back on, United's No.8 decided to say 'hello' to Prop Shannon Fedawa with a choke hold, resulting in her getting the Red Card. Needless to say, this will be a tough match to start the second half of the season. They meet again at Burnaby March 27th.
We have 4 Home Games:
Feb 13th vs Capilano
March 20th vs Velox
March 27th vs United
April 17th vs Bayside
We also have 5 Away Games:
Feb 6th at United RFC
Feb 20th at Bayside RFC
March 6th at Capilano
March13th at Meralomas
April 10th at Cowichan Rugby Club
We have been given two BYE weekends to rest the weary bodies:
These are the weekends of Feb 27th and April 24th. There is also a 'make up' Weekend - April 3rd, and I imagine Managers are going to be burning the phone lines trying to get games that needed to be made up.
We only travel once to the Island and that will be on April 10th against Cowichan. We also only play Meraloma once.
There are no easy games on the schedule but some games really worth coming out to watch and cheer on the Ladies are against Bayside - they gave us a scare in our last encounter in White Rock. We had to fight untill the last minute to get the winner. Capilano of course will be a stronger side with the inclusion of Mandy and Heather, back from National duties. The visit by Velox should also be one to mark on the Calendar. Velox had been recruiting vigourously and have recently landed Canada's current No.8, Kelly Russell, from the Toronto Nomads Rugby Club.
The 'Bye' in the last week of competition gives us two weeks of preparation before the play-off starts, depending on how well we do leading up to it.
We hope to retain the services of our National Reps for the rest of the season and hopefully see Ms Julia Sugawara donning our Blue 'n' White as well. I hear she is back after playing in England last year. We also appear to have landed a high profile forward player as well. This will definitely help our forwards, together with our Assistant Coach who is really a player first, EMMA HADFIELD!! She has decided that it is better to be in the game tackling bodies rather than pulling her hair out on the sideline. This is good news, since KATIE LARSON, who will not be invloved in any further 'dust up' has decided to give Mr. Larson some good news herself!!
She will also be taking over from Emma Hadfield as Assistant to Coach Walt.
Coach Walt is just salivating with all these developments happening around him
He can't wait for the second half to start.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
