Burnaby Lake Women Remain undefeated after Heated game against United
Premier - United @ Burnaby Lake - Oct 17, 2009
Games between United and Burnaby often have a little extra on them, whether it be the rivalries between provincial and national players, player migrations, or memories from the last match, and this game was no exception.
Game time found the weather to be wet and cold. The breakdowns were firercely contested with neither side willing to take a backward step. Burnaby's Katie Larsen and United's Jaqui Stewart found themselves in the sin-bin after one such frank exchange of views. The ill temper would continue as Jacqui Stewaart would later receive a red card for punching in the last quarter of the match.
Scoring on the day for Burnaby were Mel Miyazaki (2 tries), Devon Luca (1 try) and Anna Schnell (3 coversions, 2 penalties). Mel was clearly motivated on the day to perform well against her former club and was a rock on defence in addition to showing off her offensive arsenal. Mel's first try was a beauty selling a dummy to the defending United player who promtly vacated the lane allowing Mel to dart through and score. The try of the day prov ed to belong to Devon Luca who found herself the on the receiving end of a very well worked move that had the backs and forwards linking together to createand exploit space.
Final Score Burnaby 27 United 10
